Transferring film to DVD is a delicate process. I've had a lot of luck with Film to DVD.

John, you can find archives on the WPR website, but you can only "stream" them, not download them to your iPod. To get access to the form that you can download into iTunes, you have to the a WPR member. It's one of the many perks you get for helping support them. Cheers!

I really like your broadcast but never know when it is on. In the past I could get your prodcast via iTunes but now I can't. I only get the WPR live when trying to get your prodcast. Can this be fixed?
Thanks for your reply.

Roger, it's really hard to say. If you have a different cable, you could try that. Or if you've got a friend with a Mac, you could try importing some video there and see how it works. Otherwise, you might follow up with Sony and see if they have any suggestions on their support forum.

In transferring video from my Sony mini DV camcorder to my IMac for unknown reasons the transfer just suddenly stops. I then have to go back and begin from the very beginning [ I can find no way to continue from where the interruption occurred ]. The same thing happens in transferring back to the camera. At one point I felt the problem is with the firewire since applying pressure to the connections helps. The problem is very intermittent and I wonder if you have ever encountered this problem. How could I determine if it is the firewire connectors or the computer or camera connections?

John: Ouch!

For the record, Time Machine will back up everything BUT your File Vault encrypted home folder, regardless of whether you're logged in or not. But anytime you're logged in and you go to shut down your machine or log out, it should have tried to do a backup.

I understand the technical reasons why Apple had to do it only on log-out. Hopefully they'll figure out a way in the next release to work around those.

Amazing how we see these wonderful blogs only AFTER the damage is done. I was told yesterday that I'd lost my data; due to that very fact you've just mentioned. Dont use File Vault and if you do log out first before backing up. Not only was my Macbook Pro stolen only three months after converting to Mac from PC, but now I'm the prize idiot with my firm for having lost the entire last 3 months of work.

I'd suggest throwing it in the trash. If it's something like a Microsoft Word file that has lots of stuff you can't part with, then I'd buy a commercial virus scanner. They can sometimes repair infected files, removing only the virus-y part and leaving the rest.
