They’ll sell you a tool and the battery, as well as take the old one in for recycling. Keep in mind though, there’s a fair amount of force involved to get your iPod open. If you’re not good with tools, you might want to send your iPod in.

You might also want to check out Rapid Repair (formerly iPodmods). You can send your iPod into them and they will replace a battery for you for about $50. Even better, they will give you a free diagnostic if you think the problem may be something besides the battery, and if it is more than you want to spend they will buy your iPod for parts. They are very reputable and, as the name implies, very fast.
